Residents Forced to Use Airport Train Due to Duri-Tangerang Commuter Line Disruption

The Duri-Tangerang Commuter Line experienced a disruption this afternoon, prompting many residents to switch routes to ensure timely arrival home or avoid station overcrowding. One such commuter is Tsalfa, a 22-year-old private sector employee in Central Jakarta’s Sudirman area, who typically uses the KRL daily. Her usual route involves boarding at Sudirman Station, alighting at Duri for a transfer, then continuing to Tangerang. ‘I arrived at Sudirman at 6:50 PM and the queue was already extremely long, taking up a lot of time. It stretched all the way to the station entrance,’ Tsalfa told the outlet on Tuesday (26/5/2026). Tsalfa said she had learned of the disruption via social media alerts but still attempted to return home via her usual KRL route. Upon arriving at Sudirman Station at 6:50 PM, Tsalfa described the scene as significantly more crowded than usual, with passengers queuing from the entrance to packed carriages. Without hesitation, Tsalfa opted for the Airport Train instead. She was concerned about the uncertainty of departure times at Duri Station, where the KRL disruption was occurring. ‘I thought that if I had to transfer at Duri, where the departure times were unclear—especially since the Airport Train line was also being used—I might as well take the Airport Train, which at least guarantees a seat,’ she said. Using the Airport Train, Tsalfa will alight at Batu Ceper Station before transferring to Tangerang. Her Airport Train departs Sudirman at 8:00 PM. ‘Rather than joining the chaos at Duri Station, I decided to wait an hour for the Airport Train,’ Tsalfa explained. Tsalfa is among a number of Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi (Jabodetabek) residents who opted for the Airport Train due to the KRL disruption. She noted the Airport Train waiting area at Sudirman Station was notably crowded that evening. ‘The congestion might be due to both tomorrow’s Eid celebrations and the disruption—a combination of both factors,’ she added. It is known that the Duri-Tangerang Commuter Line experienced a disruption this afternoon along the track section between Duri and Rawabuaya stations. KAI Commuter issued an apology for the infrastructure issue. ‘KAI Commuter apologises for the infrastructure disruption affecting Commuter Line No. 1978A between Duri and Tangerang, which occurred at 5:05 PM on Tuesday (26/5) on the track section between Duri and Rawabuaya stations,’ said KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan in a statement on Tuesday (26/5/2026). Leza explained that staff responded promptly to the report. The disruption was caused by a power supply issue requiring the overhead line to be switched off, rendering the Duri-Rawabuaya section temporarily impassable. ‘Upon receiving the report, relevant staff immediately coordinated on-site to ensure passenger safety and expedite the restoration of normal Commuter Line operations,’ Leza added. She stated that the overhead power was restored at 5:56 PM. Commuter Line No. 1978A was coupled with No. 1980A to proceed to Track 3 at Rawabuaya Station for further inspection.
