Residents flock to West Jakarta Samsat to take advantage of vehicle tax penalty waiver

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta Integrated One-Roof Service Unit (Samsat) office has seen a surge in visitors seeking to utilise the tax amnesty programme, which involves the removal of administrative fines for Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB).

Based on observations at the location on Thursday, the waiting room seats were filled with taxpayers waiting for their turn, with several queues extending in front of special counters. High density was also noted in the e-form area, where residents were busy entering data, as well as in the Information and Complaint Service Room, which was crowded with citizens consulting with officers.

This high level of enthusiasm is driven by the Jakarta Provincial Government’s policy to waive vehicle tax penalties. One resident, Karim (44), expressed his gratitude for being freed from the penalties on his Toyota Calya, which had been overdue for three years, amounting to Rp1.5 million. He noted that he only learned of the waiver through his son, who saw an announcement on social media.

Similarly, Abdul Syukur (47), a resident of Kemanggisan, Palmerah, discovered the programme via a banner in front of the Samsat building while travelling along Jalan Daan Mogert. He rushed to settle his car tax, which had been expired for two years due to financial constraints. He noted that the waiver saved him approximately Rp1.2 million in penalties, significantly easing his financial burden.

Carto, Head of the Motor Vehicle Tax Collection Service Unit (UPP PKB) of the West Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda), explained that the waiver programme is effective from 1 June until 31 August. The policy was introduced as a stimulus to celebrate the 499th anniversary of Jakarta and the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence.
