Residents Flock to HI Roundabout During Colossal Drum Event, Khoirudin: An Event Long Awaited
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The takbiran night celebration titled “Eid Mubarak Jakarta: Rhythm of Fountain” at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout area in Central Jakarta was enthusiastically welcomed by thousands of residents on Friday night (20/3/2026). From the afternoon, people began filling the central capital area. Crowds of people were seen flowing from various directions, filling the area around the roundabout up to the shelters and pedestrian bridges. Despite being hit by heavy rain, the residents’ enthusiasm did not wane. Some residents were seen using umbrellas and raincoats, while others continued walking leisurely in the drizzle to enjoy the series of events. The wet road surface reflected the light from decorative lamps, creating a warm and festive atmosphere typical of takbiran night in the city. The sound of drum beats echoed back and forth from various points, blending with religious music and the glow of fountain show lights. Torch parades and decorated vehicle carnivals passing around the roundabout added to the liveliness of the atmosphere. DKI Jakarta DPRD Chairman Khoirudin said that the event was a moment that the community had long awaited. He assessed that, as an inclusive city presenting diverse religious expressions, the event also impacts the increase in economic activity in Jakarta. “This is because transactions during every religious celebration in Jakarta continue to rise with tax incentives,” he said. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the drum tradition is one of the main attractions in this year’s takbiran night celebration. “More than just a means of entertainment, this event also strengthens togetherness and provides space for community creativity to grow,” Pramono said.
