The National Lunar New Year Peak Celebration Parade Procession was held from Jakarta Cathedral towards Lapangan Banteng, with residents enthusiastically witnessing the spectacular parade.

“It was wonderful and very entertaining, and we got to break our fast whilst watching it, so it was a great form of entertainment,” said a resident, Yulita (30), when encountered in the Jakarta Cathedral area in Central Jakarta on Saturday (28 February 2026).

Yulita said she learned about the parade through social media. She deliberately came to Istiqlal Mosque to break her fast before the evening meal and to watch the parade.

“I did want to come here to break my fast, so I thought I’d catch the parade at the same time,” she said.

Another resident, Jingga (35), said she deliberately brought her two children to watch the parade. She considered the performances and attractions in the parade to be entertainment for her children.

“I saw it on Instagram, so I deliberately brought my children to have some entertainment before breaking our fast. Alhamdulillah, they really enjoyed it – seeing the barongsai, Sunggokong, dancing performances, there was so much to see,” said Jingga.

Jingga said she only watched the parade and did not continue to Lapangan Banteng. She will break her fast with her husband and two children at Istiqlal Mosque.

“No, this was enough for us. We’re going to break our fast at Istiqlal, then head home – we were satisfied just watching the parade,” said Jingga.

For information, the National Lunar New Year Peak Celebration will be held at Lapangan Banteng this evening. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka is scheduled to attend the event.

“Those attending as planned will include the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Robby Hefados, Head of Operations of the Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Directorate, to journalists on Saturday (28 February).

Robby stated that six parking areas, capable of accommodating 1,000 vehicles, had been prepared for the event. He said participants in the National Lunar New Year celebration would conduct a parade procession with a starting point in front of Jakarta Cathedral.

“It should also be noted that this afternoon a procession will be held by the community or National Lunar New Year participants, starting from in front of the Cathedral and heading towards the Adipura Monument, then turning right towards the government ministry building,” said Robby.

“And then continuing to the Post Office, then from the Post Office to North Lapangan Banteng Street, then turning left to enter the West Lapangan Banteng entrance,” he added.
