Residents Enthusiastically Scramble for Ompreng from BGN Vehicle at Merdeka Night Carnival

Residents enthusiastically welcomed 32 decorated vehicles that enlivened the Merdeka Night Carnival in celebration of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day. One of them was a decorated vehicle belonging to the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), which distributed ompreng to the attending public.

Based on observations at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout in Central Jakarta on Monday (17/8/2026), the BGN decorated vehicle passed in third position. The public’s enthusiasm was clearly visible as the vehicle went by.

Several officers on top of the BGN vehicle distributed silver-coloured ompreng food containers. Residents immediately rushed forward and scrambled to obtain them.

Some parents even carried their children on their shoulders so they could be given an ompreng.

On another note, the BGN vehicle carried a representation of the Free Nutritious Meals programme. Caricatures of schoolchildren who are beneficiaries of the programme adorned the vehicle.

A videotron display was also visible, showing the performance of BGN Head Sudaryono. Residents applauded each time a decorated vehicle passed by. They also captured the moment from the procession of decorated vehicles.

It is known that the parade of ministerial decorated vehicles in the Independence Carnival for Indonesia’s 81st anniversary in Jakarta was a showcase of priority programmes and a display of institutional creativity, not an official prize-giving competition for ministries. The event focused on public participation through online voting to select the favourite decorated vehicle.
