TANGERANG: Occupants of Vila Pamulang Mas and Reni Jaya
housing compounds in Pondok Benda, Pamulang district, ran amok on
Tuesday and destroyed newly built stores on reclaimed land that
served as a water catchment in Vila Pamulang Mas housing
compound.

"We have protested the reclamation of Tujuh Muara lake in
repeated rallies at the district administration office, but our
fear of possible floods and drought due to the loss of the water
catchment area was ignored," a resident who refused to be named
told The Jakarta Post.

The administration claimed to have summoned the developer,
Yoni Witata, several times for clarification, but he is still
receiving treatment at a hospital in Singapore.--JP
