TANGERANG - Residents around Batu Ceper Station in Tangerang City are requesting a zebra crossing and transport department officials to assist with crossing in the area near the station towards the parking location on the opposite side. This demand arises due to illegal parking on the sidewalks in that area, as the existing parking spot is considered dangerous because it requires crossing a major road. A motorcyclist using the KRL at Batu Ceper Station, Bambang (47), said that traffic conditions around the location are dominated by large vehicles passing through, making it difficult for pedestrians to cross, especially without a zebra crossing for them. According to him, the absence of crossing facilities such as a zebra crossing or traffic lights requires residents to be extra cautious when passing through. This is because the road is frequently traversed by large vehicles, such as trucks and buses, at quite high speeds. “Sometimes I just don’t feel like walking because I have to cross twice. The problem is the cars passing by are huge and driving very fast,” he said. Therefore, providing simple crossing facilities and placing officials could be a solution to reduce risks while also regulating illegal parking. “No need for an overpass, at least a zebra crossing and one transport department official to help with crossing. That way, people would be willing to park in the proper place,” he explained. A similar view was expressed by a local resident, Safrie (not his real name), who said that some riders choose to park on the sidewalk because access to the official parking, namely the airport parking, is considered far. Safrie said that to enter the airport parking area, motorcyclists have to turn around and pass through the railway line. “There is parking inside, airport parking, which is paid per hour, so many say it’s too expensive. Not everyone has a high income, plus the train fare,” said Safrie. Nevertheless, he admitted to having repeatedly reminded riders not to park haphazardly on that sidewalk.
