Residents demand Tendean pedestrian bridge be rebuilt after truck collision

Residents of Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, are calling for the pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean to be rebuilt after it was hit by a truck carrying heavy equipment. Ningsih (52), head of the local neighbourhood unit RT 02/RW 01, said residents want the bridge to be usable again to provide access to the other side of the road. She explained the bridge is essential for crossing the busy thoroughfare and that without it, pedestrians must take a significant and dangerous detour, especially given the area’s history of accidents. Ningsih also noted that residents have long complained about rubbish piling up on the bridge and have raised the matter with the Public Facilities and Infrastructure Handling (PPSU) team. She added that incidents involving large vehicles getting stuck under the bridge are not new and called for stricter monitoring to prevent such vehicles from using the route. She expressed hope that the bridge would be rebuilt quickly to restore normal pedestrian access. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday around 1:00 a.m. local time, when a truck transporting heavy equipment from Sumatera to the Attorney General’s Office in South Jakarta became lodged under the structure.
