JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Residents of Marunda, Cilincing, North Jakarta, expressed confusion upon seeing the land filling for the Marunda Flats project increasingly approaching the Blencong Anakan River channel, to the point of covering part of the flow near the bridge on Rumah Si Pitung Road.

RT 1/RW 07 Chairman Arizal stated that neither residents nor RT officials had received any specific socialisation regarding the filling near the river and bridge area.

“There was no warning, no socialisation, no notification, no meeting—or I can say I don’t understand,” he said when met by Kompas.com on Monday (11/5/2026).

“I only notice it when I go to work in the morning, passing by, ‘Why is it here?’ like that. The next day passing again, ‘It’s here again?’ and it’s getting closer and closer,” he added.

In agreement, RT 07/RW 07 Chairman Nesan claimed he was unaware that the project filling would reach near the bridge and river flow area.

According to him, the covering of the flow near the bridge only occurred in the last few weeks.

“The position of it being covered is recent, just these past weeks. Yes, about two weeks or so,” he said.

“For the land elevation filling process of the flats, it does not reach the river flow point,” he stated when confirmed by Kompas.com via WhatsApp message on Monday (11/5/2026).

According to him, the river flow closure that occurred is caused by the rise in existing sedimentation in the river channel following the filling activities.

Akbar assured that in the future, his side will install retaining walls around the project area adjacent to the river flow.

“Installation of bamboo piles (vertical posts) to hold back soil pressure so that mud sediment no longer rises,” he added.
