Jakarta (ANTARA) - A number of residents have expressed concern regarding the condition of the pedestrian overpass (JPO) plates near the Attorney General’s Office building on Jalan Kyai Maja, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, which have gone missing.

“I am on standby here from around 6:30 am, sometimes from 06:00 until 18:00 WIB. During the day it is safe, no one steals. But when I arrive in the morning, there are already holes,” said a resident named Saduloh to reporters at the Kyai Maja JPO, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Saduloh, who also sells siomay nearby, stated that the missing sections of the JPO have been present for approximately two months.

According to Saduloh, the missing parts of the JPO are suspected to have been taken during the night. This suspicion arises because when he arrives to sell his goods in the morning, he frequently finds the JPO in a perforated condition.

He noted that the first part to disappear was from the upper section of the JPO, right where he stands. Subsequently, other parts below it also went missing.

“The first one stolen was the top part. The bottom part was the last,” he said.

However, Sadully admitted he has never personally witnessed anyone removing the JPO plates. He also does not know the exact cause behind the disappearance of these plates. Despite the suboptimal condition, the JPO continues to be used by the public.

Meanwhile, another local resident, Reza, believes the condition of the JPO requires immediate attention. He noted that the overpass remains essential because the area is quite busy.

“It is a great shame if this JPO cannot be used properly. Especially since this area is crowded. If parts of the footbridge are missing, it makes it difficult for people to cross,” said Reza.

Reza also proposed the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to enhance security and help prevent the theft of JPO facilities.

“If perpetrators are still taking these parts, it harms the community. If there is no one guarding it, at least there should be CCTV,” he added.

He expressed hope that the JPO would be repaired using safer materials that are not easily removed or stolen.

“If it is repaired, perhaps using materials that are difficult for others to take,” said Reza.

The JPO on Jalan Kyai Maja is located near several key facilities and community activity centres, including the CSW ASEAN area, the Attorney General’s Office, the Bulungan Swimming Pool, and the PLN Bulungan office.
