Residents Concerned Over Damaged Road on Marunda Bridge in North Jakarta Poses Risk to Motorists

JAKARTA - The damaged road surface and exposed concrete reinforcement on the Marunda Access Bridge in Cilincing, North Jakarta, are feared to endanger motorcyclists.

One motorist, Nurmansyah (43), stated that the patchwork repairs carried out so far have not resolved the road damage issue.

“Now it’s been patched, but it’s still just asphalt patching. So there are still small holes left, but they’re actually quite deep,” Nurmansyah told Kompas.com at the site on Wednesday (29/4/2026).

“If the motorbike is moving at a reasonable speed and hits one, it can be quite jarring. I mean, if we can’t control the bike, we could fall. Plus, now there are protruding bars, which make it even more dangerous,” he said.

In agreement, another motorist, Aby (35), also complained about the still-damaged road condition on the Marunda Access Bridge.

According to him, the damaged road poses increasing risks because the route is also traversed by many trucks.

“Well, a road like this is full of trucks. If they’re close, motorbikes tend to slip through and might not see bars like that,” he said.

He also assessed that the untidy patches make the road surface undulating.

In addition, gaps between the concrete sections on the road are said to still need repair in some areas.

As a regular user of the Marunda Access Bridge, Aby hopes for prompt re-repairs.

“Well, I want it tidied up so there are no more accidents. It’s dangerous, this route. It should really be fully concreted again, not just patched with asphalt,” he added.

The majority consist of small holes resulting from cracks in the road concrete.

Around these holes, small stones are also visible scattered about.
