Residents complain of tofu waste

TANGERANG: Dozens of residents in Ketapang subdistrict,
Cipondoh district of Tangerang, complained about smelly waste
allegedly dumped by several tofu factories into the Semanan
river, of which water they took for daily washing.

"Now look, none of local residents dare to use the water for
daily washing since it has turned dirty and smelly," the
subdistrict empowerment body (LPM) chairman Muhali said on
Monday.

He alleged the pollution was caused by several tofu factories
located along the river bank. They are owned by residents at the
upstream of the river in Gondrong subdistrict.

Muhali said local residents also complaints that they also
suffered from respiration problem due to the pollution.

He said that he would discuss the problem with the subdistrict
chief.--JP
