Residents complain of threats

TANGERANG: Around 280 residents of Taman Ayu townhouses in
Lippo Karawaci, Tangerang, complained on Monday that they have
been threatened by the townhouse manager, Koko Matthew, through a
letter which states that the management will stop its services
and water supplies.

In the letter dated May 28 Koko said that the decision was
made due to the residents' reluctance to pay environmental
management fees since May 1999.

The letter, addressed to the chairman of the Taman Ayu
community Asikin, stated that the collective debts of residents
had reached Rp 246 million (US$28,180).

However, residents rejected his claim, asserting that they pay
as much as Rp 100,000 every month in such fees.

"We have fulfilled our obligations so we demand our rights. We
have paid all the fees," said Cecep Suhendar on Monday.

Lippo Karawaci spokesman, M. Faisal, said the management had
met with the community leader to discuss the fees but no solution
had been found. -- JP
