Residents Complain About Tangled Low-Hanging Cables in North Bekasi, Causing Accidents and Disrupting Businesses
Bekasi, Kompas.com — Residents are complaining about the tangled cables hanging low on Jalan Perjuangan in Marga Mulya Ward, North Bekasi District, Bekasi City.
The cables spanning the road are deemed dangerous to motorists and disruptive to the activities of nearby residents’ businesses.
Dani (34), a kiosk owner near the location, said the condition of the dangling cables has persisted for more than a year and has never been fully addressed.
“I have been here for over a year, and during that time, the condition has been tangled like this,” Dani told Kompas.com at the site on Monday (11/5/2026).
“The biggest concern is when large trucks pass by. There was once an accident because a truck snagged the cable, which then hit a motorbike and caused the rider to fall,” he said.
Dani noted that the handling so far has only involved tidying the cables with makeshift ties to make them appear unified.
He hopes the cables will soon be permanently tidied to avoid endangering passersby, especially since the location serves as access to the station.
“The hope is that the cables can be raised a bit to make it safer and more comfortable for people passing through,” he said.
Similar complaints were voiced by Asep (50), the owner of a workshop located right next to the tangled cables.
He admitted that his business activities are disrupted because large vehicles cannot enter the workshop area.
“Large cars can’t enter. Trucks also can’t park because the cables are too low,” Asep said.
“I don’t know the reason, but after they are pulled, they are not fixed again,” he added.
He assessed that the condition is increasingly dangerous because many schoolchildren often play with the low-hanging cables.
