Residents Complain About Flooding Due to Water Gate Construction in West Cengkareng

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Residents of RW 06 in Cengkareng Barat Ward, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, are complaining about flooding that refuses to subside due to the construction of a water gate project in their area. The flooding, reaching heights of 10 to 20 centimetres, has been experienced by residents over the past three weeks. Chairman of RW 06 in Cengkareng Barat Ward, Suroto, in Jakarta on Sunday, stated that they support the water gate project construction as a solution to flooding, but it cannot be denied that the construction, which requires blocking water channels, has caused several RTs in the area to be inundated. Suroto revealed that the flooding worsens during heavy rains, such as on Saturday (1/5). “That’s why the residents are protesting, don’t let there be flooding. We are not obstructing the construction or ongoing work, but the important thing is that the impact does not affect the surrounding residents,” he said. As RW officials, they have reported the problem to the relevant parties so that it can be resolved quickly. He emphasised that residents do not reject the water gate project construction, given that the surrounding area is prone to flooding. “The residents just want the water to recede. Whatever method is used to work, the important thing is that the water recedes and does not flood the residents. That’s what we want,” he added.
