Residents 'cheated' by Golkar

JAKARTA: Dozens of people packed on Thursday the Golkar Jakarta Chapter's office on Jl. Pegangsaan Barat, Cikini in Central Jakarta to exchange their coupons for basic commodities only to find out that they had been deceived.

Their efforts ended in a dud as the office said the coupons were fake.

Those people came from Manggarai in South Jakarta and Jl. Pramuka, and Cempaka Putih in Central Jakarta to exchange the coupons which read that it could be exchanged with basic commodities, like egg, instant noodle, rice, cooking oil, cloth, and soap, at the Golkar office at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

However, Sugeng Suprijatna, deputy head of the office announced that his office neither made nor distributed the coupons.

The announcement disappointed many people who came there, including public bus crews and motorcycle taxi drivers.

According to them, they obtained the coupons on Wednesday evening.

Around 20 police were deployed to safeguard the venue, said Imam, a police officer at Menteng police subprecinct.--JP
