Two jewellery thieves, identified as KWG and DA, were captured by residents while carrying out the theft in the Taman Kosmos housing area, Kedoya Utara, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on Sunday morning, May 3, 2026. The incident was thwarted after a passing eyewitness deliberately rammed his motorcycle into the suspects’ bike, causing them to fall and be beaten by bystanders. Kebon Jeruk Police Sector (Polsek Kebon Jeruk) Chief Comm. Nur Aqsha said the incident occurred when the victim, KH, 35, was returning home after shopping at a market. He explained that the victim, who was about to cross the road, was suddenly cornered by the suspects riding as a pair on a motorcycle. The rear rider acted as the executor and immediately snatched a gold necklace weighing 4 grams from the victim’s neck. As the necklace was snatched, the victim cried out for help, drawing the attention of nearby residents, including a motorcycle rider who pursued and rammed the suspects’ motorbike. The surrounding residents, angered, briefly beat the two suspects. Subsequently, the suspects were secured at a post by other residents before being picked up by the Kebon Jeruk Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit. Fortunately, KH sustained no physical injuries from the incident. The Kebon Jeruk Police are currently conducting intensive questioning of the two suspects to determine how many times they have operated in West Jakarta. “We are still probing to determine whether these offenders are new to this or if they have previously committed similar acts elsewhere,” he said.
