Residents Block Bangkonol Landfill in Pandeglang: Scattered Rubbish Causes Odour

A number of residents living near the Bangkonol Final Disposal Site (TPSA) in Pandeglang staged a protest. Residents criticised the poor management at the Bangkonol TPSA Unit Pengelolaan (UPT).

“This management has been completely replaced, but it’s getting worse, even more severe. We often conduct spot checks and the rubbish is scattered everywhere,” said a resident named Ahmad Yani at the location on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

Ahmad Yani said that the poor management was the main factor behind the residents’ demonstration and blockade of the TPSA. According to him, this has led to complaints about the unpleasant odour from waste that is not immediately handled.

“They are not serious about handling the rubbish; they can’t even handle local rubbish properly,” he stated.

“The odour produced reaches almost a one-kilometre radius,” he added.

Ahmad Yani stated that the blockade was carried out to ensure that the Regent and Deputy Regent of Pandeglang come to the field to resolve the waste issue.

“We will block it until the Regent visits us, the residents of Bangkonol, to sign a joint commitment,” he said.

The Head of the Waste Unit, Helfi Apriyani Ulfah, admitted that she would convey the residents’ aspirations to the leadership. However, she regretted the blockade because rubbish from 35 sub-districts could not be disposed of.

“I ask the community not to close it; if it’s closed, where will the rubbish be thrown?” she said.

Helfi explained that the Pandeglang Regency Government currently has only one waste disposal site. If the TPSA is closed, 90 tonnes of rubbish would accumulate daily.

“Now Pandeglang only has one disposal site; nearly 30 trucks of rubbish per day, each truck carrying 3 tonnes of rubbish. 90 tonnes per day if not disposed of, what then?” she added.
