Residents and Victim's Family Reach Peace Agreement After Menteng Clash
Residents and the family of a man killed in a clash on Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta, have agreed to a peace settlement. The reconciliation was facilitated by Jakarta Metro Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Monday (27/7).
“On behalf of the residents of RT 08 RW 04, Pegangsaan Village, I express our deepest condolences for the passing of the deceased. May the bereaved family be given strength and fortitude,” said local neighbourhood head Ica Risanggeni to reporters.
Ica also urged the public not to be afraid to resume their activities or trading. He asked residents not to be easily provoked and to work together to maintain security and order in the area. “We have made peace with the representatives of the victim’s family. Hopefully, good relations among the community will be maintained and such an incident will not happen again,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dami Renjaan, a representative of the deceased victim’s family, stated that they are fully entrusting the handling of the case to the police to be investigated according to legal procedures. “We fully entrust the handling of this case to the police. We believe the process will be carried out professionally, objectively, and fairly,” Dami said.
He also urged his extended family to exercise restraint and not take actions that could worsen the situation. “Let us all maintain security, exercise restraint, and not do things that could disrupt the situation. Let the legal process proceed as it should,” he added.
The clash between two groups on Jalan Tambak, Menteng, occurred on Sunday (26/7). The incident resulted in the death of one person, identified by the initial K, and left another person injured. Following the brawl, police have named seven suspects in two separate cases: four suspects with the initials GNA, AJL, FAM, and ELL for the destruction of a street vendor’s cart, and three suspects with the initials SK, AS, and OR for the assault.
