Residents and security forces raid hard drug distribution site in Duren Sawit
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Residents, together with TNI and Polri personnel, raided a location suspected of being a frequent transaction site for Class G prescription drugs in the East Flood Canal (BKT) Inspection Road area, Pondok Kopi, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.
“We saw and heard information from the community that there were many drugs at that location. Initially, we did not know what kind of drugs they were, so we conducted a check and raid together with the police and TNI,” said a local resident, Ipit Purwanto, in East Jakarta on Tuesday.
During the raid, officers seized hundreds of prescription drug tablets, cash suspected to be proceeds from sales, and one motorcycle left behind by the perpetrators as they fled.
The raid was carried out after residents received numerous reports from the community regarding suspicious activities suspected to be related to the circulation of prescription drugs at the site.
Information received suggested that the area was frequently used as a transaction point for illegal drugs, causing significant unrest among the local community.
After receiving multiple reports, residents coordinated with TNI and Polri authorities to conduct a direct inspection.
“After searching several hiding spots, various prescription drugs were found. We hope that the authorities do not only secure the evidence but also arrest the perpetrators who managed to escape during the inspection,” he explained.
Based on information obtained from the community, transactions were suspected to occur almost every day, causing anxiety in the surrounding neighbourhood.
During the raid, the suspected perpetrators, estimated to be three individuals, immediately fled upon realising the arrival of residents and authorities.
Ipit revealed that the perpetrators had been conducting their sales activities covertly after their previous location faced rejection from the community.
Despite having been warned several times, the perpetrators allegedly continued their activities by moving between different locations around the area.
Previously, residents along with TNI and Polri authorities had also visited the same location to dismantle structures suspected of being used for prescription drug transactions. However, those efforts had not fully halted the perpetrators’ activities, which had resumed in secret.
“We hope the police conduct more frequent patrols and surveillance in this area so that the perpetrators do not return to operation. Residents want this environment to be safe and free from the circulation of illegal drugs,” said Ipit.
Following the raid, all evidence, including hundreds of prescription drug tablets, cash suspected to be transaction proceeds, and one motorcycle left by the perpetrators, was secured by officers for further investigation.
Currently, the case involving the suspected distribution of Class G prescription drugs is being handled by the Duren Sawit Police Sector. The police are continuing investigations to identify and hunt down the perpetrators who fled during the raid.
