Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that three districts and six urban villages in Padang, West Sumatra, were affected by flooding on Saturday (10 October).

The flash floods were caused by heavy rain that drenched the area.

According to a report from the West Sumatra Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) at 3.34am on Sunday (11 October), the floodwaters had not receded, and the process of collecting data and evacuating residents was still under way.

Preliminary data showed that the flooding affected around 225 households, or 498 people.

A further 672 people were reported to have taken refuge at several evacuation centres in Kuranji district.
