Residents accuse Bekasi City Government of delaying road repairs until accidents become fatal or go viral
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com — Residents have criticised Bekasi City Government over the deteriorated condition of H Nonon Sonthanie Road in Duren Jaya Village, East Bekasi District, which they claim is being repaired too slowly despite repeatedly causing accidents.
The criticism followed two men on a motorcycle crashing on the road on Monday (25 May 2026) evening, with residents suspecting they fell while avoiding potholes.
Kompas.com’s observations on Tuesday (26 May 2026) showed numerous potholes still present along the road, with remnants of the accident such as broken glass and vehicle debris scattered at the roadside.
The suspected accident-causing pothole had been marked with white paint and covered with soil.
‘There are so many potholes here. People often fall and have accidents,’ said Anis, speaking to Kompas.com at the scene on Tuesday.
He added that the uneven, pothole-ridden road makes motorcyclists prone to losing balance, especially at higher speeds.
‘Motorcycles can’t maintain balance when hitting a pothole, leading to falls,’ he explained.
Anis said he became aware of Monday’s accident after hearing a loud collision from the main road.
‘It was very busy last night. The traffic jammed for a long stretch. Turns out someone had an accident because of the potholes again,’ he said.
According to Anis, street lighting is adequate.
