Residents Accept Transjakarta Fare Hike Provided Facilities Are Improved

A number of residents have stated they are amenable to the proposed fare increases for Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek services, provided the Jakarta Provincial Government significantly upgrades facilities. The Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ) has proposed raising the Transjakarta fare to Rp 5,000 and the Transjabodetabek fare to Rp 10,000. Commuter Yona, who travels from Depok to West Jakarta, said the new fares are acceptable but highlighted the need for a larger fleet. She noted that during the evening rush hour, the D41 Sawangan-Lebak Bulus route often terminates at the Sawangan toll gate instead of the final stop due to severe traffic congestion. Yona also criticised the lack of seating and bins at bus stops, particularly at the Lebak Bulus Halte, and urged the construction of a proper halte at Sawangan Terminal. Another commuter, Riris, deemed the proposed fares ideal compared to online motorcycle taxis, though she stressed that non-BRT halte facilities must be expanded to accommodate long queues during peak hours. DTKJ Chairman Sugihardjo previously stated that the fare adjustment would also support future integration with LRT and MRT services, allowing passengers to use multiple modes of transport with a single payment.
