Residential fire in Kemayoran Gempol extinguished after seven hours
A fire at a densely populated residential area on Kemayoran Gempol Street in Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran district, Central Jakarta (Jakpus) has been extinguished. Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately seven hours before putting it out.
“The situation/status of the fire: extinguished,” stated the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Command Centre on Tuesday (2 June 2026).
Firefighters received initial reports of the fire at 8:55 pm on Monday (1 June), with operations commencing at 9:05 pm. The firefighting operation concluded at 4:15 am.
“A total of 35 units and 175 personnel were deployed,” the command centre added.
The cause and sequence of events leading to the fire remain unknown, and there is no final data on casualties.
The government has set up evacuation points at Jusuf Hamka Field, Benyamin Suaeb Street, for data collection and disaster relief coordination. Director General of Regional Administration at the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Safrizal ZA, stated that evacuation facilities have been prepared with support from various parties.
“Temporary evacuation sites have been established to prevent residents from congregating on the streets and to allow them to rest, with logistics provided by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in collaboration with the Jakarta Social Affairs Office, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), and National Zakat Agency (Baznas),” Safrizal told Antara on Tuesday (2 June).
Three tents have been provided by the Jakarta Social Affairs Office, with additional logistical vehicles from PMI and BPBD arriving at the site. Data collection is currently underway for residents affected across two neighbourhood units (RW): RW 04, which includes five neighbourhood blocks (RT 12-16), and RW 05, covering three blocks (RT 01-03).
Safrizal explained that the data will include school-age children to ensure educational needs are met. Once the emergency situation is resolved, the government will assess the damage and discuss long-term measures for residents.
“Only after all emergency measures are completed will we discuss the process for residents, including the possibility of relocating to safer housing,” Safrizal added.
