Resident Slaughters Chicken in Front of West Lombok Regent's Office, Demands LAZ Be Impoverished
A resident staged a chicken slaughter in front of the West Lombok Regent’s Office on Thursday (23/7/2026), whilst Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators were still searching the building. The symbolic act was claimed as an expression of gratitude for the arrest of non-active West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini (LAZ) in a suspected corruption case.
Based on observations, a man named Junaidi arrived with a colleague at around 12.18 Wita carrying a chicken. Upon arriving in front of the regent’s office, he first gave a speech using a loudspeaker before slaughtering the chicken he had brought.
In his oration, Junaidi expressed gratitude for the arrest of officials suspected of corruption in West Lombok. “Today we will slaughter a chicken as a symbolic act for the destruction of the corruptors in West Lombok,” he said.
Junaidi also demanded that LAZ be given the heaviest possible sentence if proven guilty. “We demand that LAZ be impoverished,” he stressed. He also urged the KPK to investigate other parties suspected of receiving illicit funds from the corruption. “We hope the KPK will arrest all the thieves in West Lombok. Do not give them any mercy,” he asserted.
After his speech, Junaidi slaughtered the chicken he had brought as part of the symbolic act. The chicken was then placed into a sack to be taken away.
Meanwhile, until 13.05 Wita, KPK investigators were still conducting searches at the West Lombok Regent’s Office. The search was carried out in three rooms: the Regent’s office, the office of the Head of Procurement of Goods and Services which had previously been sealed, and the office of Assistant II, who also serves as Acting Regional Secretary of West Lombok, Ahmad Saikhu.
Previously, the KPK conducted a sting operation and arrested LAZ at his official residence on Monday (20/7/2026). During the operation, investigators detained 19 people. After intensive examination, the KPK named three suspects: LAZ, President Director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang (PT AMGM) Sudirman, and President Director of PT Meconel Sistim Instrument (PT MSI) Alvonsus Gani.
The KPK suspects LAZ of receiving bribes related to a number of projects in West Lombok, as well as engaging in a conflict of interest in the procurement of goods and services. In the case construction, LAZ allegedly ordered the Head of the West Lombok Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing and Settlement Areas Agency, Lalu Ratnawi, to assist Sudirman in obtaining government projects. Sudirman then allegedly used CV Dyas Karya Konstruksi (DKK) as a project ‘bucket pool’ by borrowing the names of several companies so that CV DKK would not be recorded as the winner. The KPK suspects that tender requirements were rigged so that companies used by Sudirman won projects worth IDR 17.9 billion through tenders and direct appointments. Through the tender process, these projects included the rehabilitation of Gerung City Park in 2025 worth IDR 2.3 billion and the second phase of rehabilitation in 2026 worth IDR 4.3 billion. Both projects made Giri Menang City Park one of the works included in the KPK’s case construction.
