Resident shot as TNI raids subsidised-gas operators in Bogor
A video circulating on social media depicts a resident being shot by members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces during a raid on a subsidised-gas operation in the Cileungsi district, Bogor Regency, West Java. In the clip, the victim is described as having injuries to the shoulder.
In response to the viral video, Commander of Detachment III/1 Military Police Bogor, Lt Col Anggi Wahyu Hardiyanto, said the case is being handled by Pomdam Siliwangi. ‘What is certain is that this case has been handled by Pomdam Siliwangi in Bandung. The personnel at the scene were members of Satlak Lidpamfik Pomdam III/Siliwangi,’ Anggi told Detik.com on Wednesday (20 May).
He explained that the raid on the subsidised-gas operation occurred on Tuesday (11 May) in the early hours.
According to him, Pomdam III/Siliwangi acted on reports about an individual in the TNI-AD allegedly shielding the operation of gas subsidy adulteration. At the scene, the forces reportedly faced resistance and were attacked by residents.
‘In short, they (Pomdam III/Siliwangi) received information from the public and from networks that there was subsidised-gas adulteration being shielded by a member of the TNI-AD, which is why the unit moved there,’ Anggi said. ‘When they arrived, the public suddenly appeared and attacked them.’
He said the Pomdam Siliwangi members then fired a warning shot as they felt pressed. A civilian was injured in the right shoulder due to a ricochet or the impact of the bullet from the Pomdam.
‘The civilian who was shot has received treatment at a hospital. The incident has also been resolved amicably within the family,’ Anggi added. ‘The TNI members have taken responsibility to the member of the public who was shot.’
