Resident Shocked by Rp 222,000 Parking Fee at Ananda Babelan Hospital for Just 3 Days
BEKASI – Syamsuri, a resident of Hurip Jaya Village, Babelan District, Bekasi Regency, was shocked when the motorcycle parking fee he was required to pay at Ananda Babelan Hospital reached Rp 222,000.
Syamsuri claimed he parked two motorcycles at the hospital for three days from Sunday 22 February to Tuesday 24 February whilst his child was undergoing inpatient treatment for dengue fever.
The incident went viral on social media after being uploaded by a TikTok account named @cecep and shared by Instagram account @bekasi.terkini.
In the video, Syamsuri explained that he brought two motorcycles to the hospital. One motorcycle was registered as a parking member by his wife, whilst the other was not.
“When I wanted to get a waiting card, I was directed to the parking post. But for only one motorcycle, I gave it to my wife who was a member for parking. When I was about to leave, I gave the parking barcode, and it turned out to be this much—Rp 222,000,” Syamsuri said in the post, cited on Friday 27 February.
“There was no discount; I had to pay, they said,” Syamsuri added.
Meanwhile, the Head of Parking Security at Ananda Hospital, Gozali, explained that the tariff provisions were already displayed at the entrance to the parking area, namely Rp 3,000 per hour for motorcycles with no maximum parking time limit.
“When patients are admitted for inpatient care, we already have announcements or information to create a parking membership. For motorcycles, it is around Rp 20,000 for three days,” Gozali said when met by Kompas.com at Ananda Hospital on Friday 27 February.
According to Gozali, Syamsuri’s parking fee reached Rp 222,000 because one of his motorcycles was not registered as a member.
“He brought two motorcycles, one was registered as a member, one was not. And he also knew that the motorcycle registered as a member was only Rp 20,000, and the one not registered was Rp 222,000,” said Gozali.
Gozali explained that if a vehicle is not registered as a member, the rate is calculated based on the accumulated hours of parking.
“Now if he does not create a membership, multiply it by 4 days the motorcycle stayed here, what is the total,” said Gozali.
Gozali stated that the matter should have been discussed and deliberated properly to find a solution to the problem.
“This could actually have been discussed properly. In other words, if one truly felt burdened by the amount stated, then at least they could request a solution, rather than having it go viral,” he said.
