JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A resident named Ati (53) saw a man pass along a narrow alley of Jalan Pejaten Raya, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, about an hour before the discovery of the baby on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. Ati was at home with the door open. He could not see the man clearly due to his reduced eyesight, but he could confirm that the man passed from his doorway to the end of the alley while carrying a black shopping bag. At the time, Ati thought the man was merely a courier delivering items to a neighbouring house. He did not know where the bag had been left. The man wearing a light brown jacket then passed by again about two minutes later. The black bag he had previously carried was no longer in his hand. On that occasion, both of the man’s hands were busy with his mobile phone, appearing to be a courier confirming a delivery. ‘I thought the people here usually order parcels. I didn’t ask. Then not long after, about two minutes later, he was still there and the bag was gone,’ he said. Ati did not realise the incident until the following morning. He was startled and saddened when he first saw the baby wrapped in blue clothes and a blanket. He later told the neighbour who found the baby. ‘Yes, I did think about the man then. If it had been in the afternoon, we would be focusing on the child and the person said to be 12 years old,’ he said. Ati confirmed that the man he saw that afternoon was not the 12-year-old boy as claimed in the note left behind.
