Researchers find six kima species

MANOKWARI, Irian Jaya: Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) researchers have found six species of kima, a kind of marine biota, in Teluk Cendrawasih Marine Park, Antara said.

This makes the marine park one of the world's richest areas in marine biotas, park head Minto Basuki said Tuesday.

The six species were identified as goat-head kima (Casis Cornuta), giant kima (Tridacna Gigas), horseshoe kima (Hyposus), hole kima (Tridacna Crocea), scaly kima (Tridacna Squamoss) and big kima (Tridacna Maxima).

They also found 145 species of scelerantinia at 35 meters beneath sea level, five groups of corals and several turtle species, including Eretmochyllis Imbricata, Chelonia Mydas, Dermocelis Corisces and Balaenoptera Musculus, Basuki said.
