JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Senior researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Lili Romli, believes that a cabinet reshuffle can serve as a momentum to strengthen government performance if directed towards addressing the root problems at hand.

According to Lili, the cabinet reshuffle carried out by President Prabowo Subianto is part of an evaluation effort.

However, this step is assessed as not fully meeting public expectations.

“This cabinet reshuffle does not align with public expectations. In fact, the public wants the president to reshuffle ministers, deputy ministers, and agency heads with poor performance,” said Lili, when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday (27/4/2026).

Therefore, Lili assesses that the reshuffle needs to be conducted more comprehensively and touch on fundamental aspects, rather than mere positional shifts.

“The root problem with some ministers, deputy ministers, and agency heads is that they do not occupy positions according to their expertise and competence, resulting in disappointing or poor performance. They should be reshuffled by the president,” she said.

“However, this was not done, so the public may become disappointed and question it. One question is why only this was reshuffled, just tinkering and shifting people around, without a comprehensive and fundamental reshuffle,” she continued.

According to her, without addressing the root problems, efforts to improve cabinet performance may not be optimal.

Nevertheless, Lili hopes that the newly inaugurated officials will still demonstrate better performance and be responsive to public aspirations.

“The hope is that those now inaugurated will show good performance and that public aspirations are given attention, not ignored,” said Lili.

It is known that President Prabowo Subianto today inaugurated six new officials in the cabinet reshuffle at the State Palace, Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta.

The inauguration was attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The inaugurated officials took their oath of loyalty to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and to carry out laws and regulations with full responsibility.
