Research: Majority of Millennials and Gen Z Choose Airlines with Security and Punctuality
Jakarta - The Jakpat research institute conducted a study titled “2026 Lebaran Homecoming Trends: Air Passenger Behaviour” and noted that airlines implementing the best aviation safety and security measures are the preferred choice for millennials and Gen Z.
Jakpat’s Head of Research, Aska Primardi, stated that this assessment is based on various determining factors, particularly aspects of flight safety and security up to punctuality.
“In that assessment, Garuda Indonesia is considered the airline with the best implementation of aviation safety and security among other airlines,” Aska said in an official statement on Tuesday (21/4/2026).
“Consistent punctuality is a crucial factor for air transport users. Garuda Indonesia as the primary choice, both for the 2026 mudik period and for future travel plans,” he added.
The assessment is based on a survey conducted by Jakpat on at least 338 domestic flight passengers who undertook the Lebaran mudik in 2026.
Based on the survey results, Garuda Indonesia and Citilink were the most chosen airlines by the public during the 2026 Lebaran mudik momentum, with usage percentages of 39% each.
Additionally, the majority of respondents, namely more than 40% of those aged between 25 and 35 years, chose Garuda Indonesia and Citilink as their primary airline options for mudik travel during the recent Lebaran period.
He said that based on the survey results, Garuda Indonesia and Citilink also became the most widely recognised airline brands, with consistent usage levels where the majority of respondents had flown with Garuda in the last six months.
“Garuda Indonesia was selected by the majority of respondents as the primary airline choice for mudik travel during the 2026 Lebaran season,” he stated.
“The majority of respondents also plan to choose the Garuda Indonesia Group for mudik travel plans in the coming years,” he continued.
Aska revealed that besides Garuda Indonesia and Citilink, public choices for mudik flights were followed by Lion Air Group and AirAsia.
He stated that there are several determining factors in choosing an airline.
“For future mudik plans, passenger preferences tend to remain stable. As many as 58% of respondents intend to use Garuda Indonesia for the next Lebaran holiday, followed by Citilink (51%) and Batik Air (43%),” he added.
As many as 84% of respondents emphasised the importance of safety and security factors.
