Research Institute in China Preserves Endangered Fish Species in Yangtze River
Chongqing — The Wanzhou District Fisheries Research Institute, based in Dazhou, functions as a wild acclimatisation centre for rare fish species in the upper Yangtze River.
Equipped with 32 net enclosures covering approximately 800 square metres, the centre preserves over 20 rare and commercial fish species. The facility’s annual production of rare and high-quality fish fry reaches 20 million individuals.
In recent years, the centre has strengthened short-term wild acclimatisation training programmes for fish fry prior to their release into natural waters, which has effectively helped increase the wild populations of these rare species.
