Research in Motion Could Face Sanctions From Indonesia Trade Department
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Trade Department said Canadian Research in Motion, the producer of the latest communication gadget, Blacberry will face sanctions if the company failed to comply with local regulation on after sales service.
Director for Goods and Services Monitoring of the Trade Department Inayat Iman said on Monday his office will seek prison sentence up to five years and fine of Rp2 billion for the canadian telecommuinication company could not set up at least six service centers in six major cities in Indonesia by August 21.
Inayat said his office could only monitor distribution of the new telecommunication device but has no authority to ban its distribution as the authority lies in the Communication and Informatics Department.
Spokesman for the Communication and Informatics Department Gatot S Dewabroto said his office to revoke trading license for the Canadian product if the company failed to meet the requirement.
The Communication and Informatics Department issued trading license for Blackberry before the license holder could meet the Trade Minister Regulation no 19 of 2009 on product manual and after sales service.
