Modern home technology is increasingly relying on research-based approaches and data analysis to meet the evolving needs of contemporary society. Companies are not only focusing on technological innovation but also studying lifestyle patterns, environmental conditions, and air and water quality across different countries to provide more relevant solutions for consumers.

This approach has become more critical as public attention grows towards healthy living and the need for household appliances that are not only advanced but also adaptable to daily environmental conditions.

Several home technology companies are strengthening global research-based innovation, including air and water purification solutions for urban populations.

PT Coway International Indonesia states that research-based technology development is the company’s main foundation for providing healthier and more comfortable home solutions for modern society.

This commitment is supported by the Coway R&D Center, a research and development hub focused on air and water solutions. Established in 1993 and located at Seoul National University Research Park since 2008, the center serves as the base for developing Coway products sold in over 50 countries, including South Korea, Malaysia, the United States, Thailand, and Indonesia.

With over 300 researchers and internationally standardised research facilities, the Coway R&D Center develops environmental home appliances such as water purifiers, air purifiers, bidets, and mattresses.

Beyond technological development, Coway also studies consumer behaviour, lifestyles, and environmental conditions where products are used to create innovations more relevant to modern consumer needs.

Jake Lee, Vice President Director of Coway Indonesia, said innovation is not just about introducing the latest technology, but ensuring it delivers real, relevant solutions for everyday consumer needs.

‘With global research and robust technological development, we continue to produce products designed to support healthier, more comfortable, and modern living,’ he said.

As a science-driven innovation company, Coway holds over 5,591 intellectual property rights since 2025. The company is also supported by 44 certified water sommeliers from the Korea International Sommelier Association (KISA) and Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water), as well as 20 Certified Water Specialists (CWS) accredited by the US Water Quality Association (WQA).

Trust in Coway’s product quality is reinforced by its Environmental Analysis Center, recognised as a Drinking Water Inspection Agency by South Korea’s Ministry of Environment and an International Testing Laboratory by the Korean Accreditation Organization (KOLAS).

Coway is also the first company in South Korea to be recognised by TÜV SÜD Europe as a RoHS testing laboratory and by the WQA as a Technical Service Provider.

In product development, Coway has built a global data-driven research system through Water Map and Air Map Service. Water Map is developed from analysis of approximately 2,700 water quality data points across 41 countries, while Air Map Service analyses over 120 billion air data points from various environments, climates, and times.

Through this data-driven approach, Coway develops solutions tailored to each country’s needs and environmental conditions, including Indonesia.

The latest implementation of this research is the launch of the Squarefit and Squarebig air purifiers. Both products combine air purification technology, data-based air quality approaches, and modern design to meet urban lifestyle needs.

The Squarebig is designed for large rooms up to 79 square metres and features real-time air quality monitoring. The Squarefit, with a slim design and low-noise operation, targets modern and compact living spaces.

Both products also feature Air Matching Filter technology, allowing users to adjust air filtration systems according to their home environment.

‘With innovations like Squarefit and Squarebig, we aim to demonstrate how research and technology can be translated into solutions close to consumer needs,’ he added.

Demand for air purification solutions is expected to rise with changing lifestyles. In recent weeks, hospitals and clinics in Jabodetabek have recorded a significant increase in patients with flu-like symptoms similar to COVID-19.

The launch of NEXT STORM is part of Coway’s commitment to continuous innovation in air purifiers, amid growing public awareness. Indonesia’s dry season is characterised by intense heat and dry air. The presence of Ecovacs and Tineco stores is hoped to make it easier for the public to access home cleaning solutions with the latest technology.
