Rescue of Mother and Baby Orangutans Affected by Forest Fires in Ketapang
A joint team from the West Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) and the Indonesia Nature Rehabilitation Initiative Foundation (YIARI) has rescued a mother and baby orangutan affected by forest fires in Ketapang, West Kalimantan. The primates were found clinging to an acacia tree within a 400-square-metre area surrounded by palm oil plantations, which had been stripped of food sources by the fires.
During the evacuation process on Friday (18/09/2026), the mother orangutan required oxygen assistance. The rescued pair has been moved to undergo necessary medical treatment to ensure their recovery from the impact of the environmental disaster.
