Resbob Attends Hate Speech Trial at Bandung District Court; Prosecutor Details Indictment

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – Muhammad Adimas Firdaus, also known as Resbob, the suspect in the hate speech case against the Sundanese ethnic group, attended his first court hearing at the Bandung District Court on Monday (23 February 2026). The hearing agenda was the reading of the indictment, led by the presiding judge, Lingga Setiawan.

As observed, Resbob was escorted by police officers and prosecutors to courtroom 2 of the Bandung District Court. The hearing began around 12:26 PM local time, and the courtroom was filled with media representatives.

Rika Fitrianirmala, the public prosecutor from the Bandung Prosecutor’s Office, began reading the indictment after being given permission by the presiding judge. The prosecutor stated that on Monday, 8 December 2025, Adimas Firdaus, also known as Resbob, committed a criminal act by broadcasting, displaying, or posting writings or images that were visible to the public.

“Or by broadcasting recordings that could be heard by the public or disseminating them using information technology, containing statements of hostility with the intention that the content be known or more widely known by the public, against one or more groups or communities in Indonesia based on race, nationality, ethnicity, skin colour, mental disability, or physical disability, and resulting in violence against people or property,” she said while reading the indictment.

The prosecutor said that Resbob, who was at his boarding house in Surabaya with two of his friends, was driving a car while live-streaming using his mobile phone. They also bought a bottle of alcoholic beverage.

She said that the three of them went together to a haunted house attraction while drinking the alcoholic beverage. Resbob was driving the car, and his two friends were sitting in the passenger seats while live-streaming.

“In the live stream on his mobile phone, Resbob said the words ‘Bonek Viking are the same, but only Viking are the bastards, basically all Sundanese are bastards, all Sundanese people are bastards’ on his YouTube account @panggilajabob,” she said.

The prosecutor said that Resbob was in a conscious state, although under the influence of alcohol, while driving the car and making the statement, so that it would be known by the public, with up to 200 people watching. It is known that Resbob’s background is that he is a supporter of Persija.

“These words have been known by the public, causing feelings of hostility towards one or more groups or communities in Indonesia based on ethnicity, especially among the Sundanese ethnic group,” she said.

The prosecutor said that the defendant, Muhammad Adimas Firdaus, also known as Resbob, was charged under Article 243, paragraph (1) of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Article 243, paragraph (1) of Law No. 1 of 2026 concerning Amendments to Criminal Law. The maximum penalty is four years in prison.
