Republika Partners with Waste4Change to Manage Waste for ESG Now Movement
Republika has partnered with Waste4Change to manage waste generation as part of the ESG Now Movement 2026 series of activities. This collaboration was implemented during a padel tournament titled ‘Rally for Environment’ through the provision of segregated bins and educational facilities for participants.
Pandu Priyambodo, Lead Marketing Communication Partnership at Waste4Change, stated that waste management in these activities does not end with collection from the venue, but continues through sorting and processing.
“We do not only transport waste from the event location, but also ensure that the waste is managed. The hope is that only residue will end up in landfills, while waste that still has utility can be reused through the reduce, reuse, and recycle concept,” said Pandu during the Rally for Environment event at Field of Paradise, Pondok Indah, Jakarta, on Saturday (12/9/2026).
During the Rally for Environment, Waste4Change provided segregated bins to help participants recognise and separate waste by type. This facility also served as an educational tool to ensure waste sorting begins at the source. Waste4Change also provided an educational corner where participants could learn about different categories of waste.
Pandu explained that the waste collected during the Rally for Environment is taken to Waste4Change’s processing facility to be sorted. Once separated, waste that still has value can be reused, sold, or processed into other products, including briquettes.
This waste management partnership is not limited to the Rally for Environment. Republika and Waste4Change will also implement similar waste sorting and education in upcoming ESG Now Movement activities, including ‘Bebersih Leuweung’ and the ‘Leadership Forum and ESG Now Awards 2026’.
Pandu noted that waste reduction remains the primary step the public can take in their daily lives. For instance, bringing a reusable tumbler can help reduce the use of single-use beverage containers.
“The first step is to reduce waste generation. Simple actions like bringing a tumbler are good habits as they reduce the use of single-use containers,” he said. In addition to reduction, Pandu encouraged the public to perform sorting when waste is unavoidable, as sorting at the source facilitates easier collection and processing.
This waste management approach is one of the environmental practices within the ESG Now Movement 2026 developed by Republika. Through the collaboration with Waste4Change, waste management is treated not just as a post-event task, but as an integral part of participant education during the event.
Republika Editor-in-Chief, Andi Muhyiddin, stated that the Rally for Environment is not merely a padel sports event, but also a space for education on sustainable lifestyles.
“We are holding this activity to encourage and amplify an environmentally friendly lifestyle,” said the man affectionately known as Dio.
Beyond waste management, the Rally for Environment encouraged participants to engage in several environmental actions. Participants were encouraged to bring tumblers and use water refill facilities, while waste generated during the event was sorted to support subsequent processing.
One of the environmental activations in the event was ‘Smash for Trees’. In this activation, the number of smashes performed by participants is converted into trees that will be planted through the Dompet Dhuafa reforestation programme.
In addition to the ‘Smash for Trees’ contribution, participants and involved parties can also provide donations to support tree planting and post-disaster recovery programmes. Through this scheme, on-field sporting activities are linked to environmental actions that provide benefits beyond the event itself.
The Rally for Environment serves as one of the activities in the ESG Now Movement 2026 series, combining sports, community, and environmental action. Through these activities, Republika aims to ensure that environmental awareness is translated into measurable and actionable impact.
