Two journalists from Republika have been reported as arrested by Israeli soldiers in international waters while covering a humanitarian mission with the Global Sumud Flotilla in mid-May. The two journalists targeted by the Israeli military interception are Bambang Noroyono and Thoudy Badai.

This was confirmed by the Editor-in-Chief of Republika, Andi Muhyiddin, who expressed strong condemnation of the Israeli military’s actions.

“This action is a serious violation of international law, universal humanitarian principles, and the civil liberties of global citizens delivering aid to the Palestinian people in Gaza,” Andi stated in a written statement on Monday, 18 May 2026.

He noted that his two journalists departed alongside several other Indonesian volunteers. The group of nine volunteers was engaged in both humanitarian duties and journalistic coverage.

“The volunteers did not arrive carrying weapons, but rather solidarity, medicines, logistical aid, and the voice of the world’s conscience for the Palestinian civilians,” said Andi.

He emphasised that this humanitarian and reporting mission is vital in resisting the blockade, famine, and continuous aggression faced by Palestinians due to Israel. “We stand with the world’s humanitarian volunteers. We reject all forms of criminalisation against humanitarian missions in international waters,” added Andi.
