Washington (ANTARA) - Republican members of the United States Congress are divided in opinion regarding the funding for the construction of a new dance hall proposed by President Donald Trump in the East Wing area of the White House, with debates emerging on whether to use taxpayer money or private funds.

“We have a $39 trillion US dollar debt (Rp624 quadrillion), perhaps we should stop spending money,” Senator Rick Scott told NBC News on Monday.

Meanwhile, Democrats continue to oppose the idea of building the dance hall in general.

Democrats are reported to possibly reject the bill because many of them believe that Trump has violated the law by failing to obtain congressional approval before demolishing the East Wing area.

Following the shooting incident at the Washington Hilton Hotel on Saturday (25/4), Trump stated that the “highly secretive” and “military” dance hall would prevent a similar situation from occurring. Trump urged that the construction of the dance hall be carried out as quickly as possible.

On Saturday night, sudden gunfire erupted at the Washington Hilton Hotel during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner event. All attendees present, including Trump and Melania, were evacuated. US authorities quickly detained the suspect, while a US Secret Service agent sustained injuries.
