The Republic Conference, held at Andalas University, Padang, on Monday (31/08/2026) under the theme “Shaping a True Constitutional Republic,” has issued five calls to action for state organisers.

The Republic Conference in Padang serves as a continuation of the Republic Conference in Yogyakarta and the National Consolidation in Jakarta. The previous agenda in Yogyakarta resulted in three demands: restoring the sovereignty of civil society, building a new republican formation to restore public trust, and uniting all civil forces.

Led by the Presidium consisting of Feri Amsibility, Khoirunnisa Nur Agustyati, and Fadli Ramadhanil, the Padang conference translated the Yogyakarta demands into three fundamental questions: who is worthy of leading, does the state possess the capacity to manage the economy, and is there still space for civil society to exist.

These three questions served as catalysts throughout the forum, ultimately resulting in five specific calls to the state administration:

  1. Enforce leadership selection mechanisms based on track records and ethics, rather than proximity to power.

  2. Restore the state’s capacity to manage the economy, rather than merely replacing programmes every time power changes hands.

  3. Halt the expansion of militarism into civilian spaces.

  4. End negative transactionalism within the government and protect those who refuse to remain silent.

  5. Ensure civil society serves as a key pillar of republican governance, rather than merely being participants when invited.
