Reproductions of Affandi's works

JAKARTA (JP): Reproductions of Affandi's best paintings are now available at a local art gallery.

The works were reproduced by Affandi's granddaughter and her husband Dr. Dirix. They made between five and 200 copies of the original paintings. The fewer the copies, the higher the price.

The cheapest item is a porcelain reproduction which costs US$60. The price of a black and white lithograph reproduction starts at $120, while a color one goes for $150.

They are available at Dharma Gallery, on Jl. Ciputat Raya, South Jakarta and at the Affandi Museum in Yogyakarta.

"They are not posters. We don't mass produce," Dirix said Sunday.

He said it took him 12 hours to reproduce a three-color painting.

Each of the reproductions comes with a certificate and a stamp to guarantee the originality of the work. The lithograph reproductions are made on high-quality paper, Dirix assured.

Affandi, one of Indonesia's greatest artist, died in 1990 at the age of 83. (sim)
