Reprimanded for Breaking Through Railway Barrier in Garut, Four People Gang Up on Guard
PT KAI Daerah Operasi (Daop) 2 Bandung is coordinating with the police to investigate and pursue four individuals who assaulted a railway crossing guard at level crossing JPL 227 Leuwigoong, Garut Regency, West Java. The attack occurred after the guard reprimanded a motorcyclist for dangerously breaking through the closed barrier.
Kuswardojo, Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 2 Bandung, stated that the violence took place on Sunday, July 12, at around 2:00 PM Western Indonesia Time at KM 210+8 on the Karangsari-Cibatu track section. The incident began when the guard was closing the crossing gate to secure the passage of the Serayu train. A motorcyclist ignored the safety procedure and forced their way through the restricted area.
After being warned by the guard for endangering lives, the motorcyclist reacted arrogantly and returned to the JPL 227 post with three accomplices to brutally assault the victim. The attack left the guard with facial bruising and scratches on the hands.
Kuswardojo expressed deep regret and strongly condemned the assault on the guard, who was performing his duty to ensure the safety of train journeys and road users. He confirmed that the field personnel had followed correct operational procedures to protect road users from a potential fatal accident. The management has pledged to provide full support to the victim throughout the legal process.
KAI reminded the public that safety at level crossings is a shared responsibility protected by law. Obeying traffic rules at crossings is not a mere formality but a matter of life and death. Every road user is required to stop when the warning signal sounds, the barrier begins to close, or there is any indication that a train is approaching. Breaking through a crossing not only endangers the individual but also threatens the safety of train operations and other road users.
