Reported to Dewas, KPK Deputy Calls It a Form of Public Concern
Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Asep Guntur Rahayu, stated that the report from the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) to the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) represents public concern for anti-corruption efforts. MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman reported several KPK officials to Dewas, including KPK leadership, Asep Guntur, and KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo.
“I personally extend my utmost thanks for the report from MAKI to the KPK Dewas regarding the handling of the Hajj quota corruption case,” Asep told reporters on Thursday (26/3).
Asep emphasised that the report was submitted through the appropriate mechanism, allowing the KPK Dewas to follow it up.
“For me personally, this reporting is a form of public concern for the eradication of corruption crimes that we are carrying out,” he said.
“And most importantly, the report was submitted through the correct channel, in this case to the KPK Dewas,” he added.
MAKI’s report relates to the transfer of detention for former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, who was previously shifted to house arrest.
MAKI assessed several irregularities in that policy, from alleged external interference to discrepancies in KPK officials’ statements regarding the suspect’s health condition.
“KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the suspect was in good health, while the Deputy for Enforcement said the individual was ill,” said Boyamin.
Additionally, MAKI highlighted suspicions that the detention transfer decision was not made collectively by KPK leadership, deeming it potentially legally flawed.
On the other hand, KPK previously explained that the detention transfer was based on a family request and had undergone legal consideration.
“Investigators carried out a change in the type of detention for the suspect from KPK detention centre to house arrest,” said Budi Prasetyo on Saturday (21/3).
According to him, while under house arrest, KPK continues to conduct strict supervision of the suspect.
This case involves alleged corruption in the distribution of quotas and organisation of Hajj pilgrimage at the Ministry of Religious Affairs for 2023-2024.
