JAKARTA - Residents’ complaints regarding the pile-up of rubbish on Jalan Kepanduan 2 in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, continue repeatedly. Although already reported through various complaint channels, the rubbish dumping activities at the location are said to still be ongoing and have not been fully addressed. A local resident, Jayadi (not his real name), stated that rubbish dumping activities are still occurring, causing the piles to keep growing, even though it has been reported via the JAKI app. He mentioned that the condition of the rubbish piles is now increasingly severe and disturbing the surrounding environment, especially when the wind direction carries the smell to residential areas. “It’s really bad now; the rubbish piles have increased a lot,” he said. In agreement, another resident, Mawar (not her real name), said the main complaint from the community is the unpleasant odour that disrupts daily activities. “Yes, the complaint is about the smell; it’s uncomfortable. What used to be for residents’ activities, like exercising, has become unhealthy,” she told Kompas.com on Wednesday. She also revealed that residents have reported the alleged unauthorised rubbish dumping to the local government, but have not seen clear follow-up. “I haven’t used JAKI, but to the lurah, camat, and mayor, yes. But until now, we don’t know what the follow-up is,” she said. In response, Andita, Head of the Pejagalan Subdistrict Government Section, confirmed the repeated reports regarding the rubbish piles at the location. She said the subdistrict has made persuasive efforts by giving warnings to stall owners around the location. However, because reports continue to come in, they then issued a written warning letter to several stalls suspected of being rubbish accumulation points. “The next follow-up efforts by Pejagalan Subdistrict are to issue a written warning letter to the existing stalls,” she said. Andita added that further enforcement steps will be carried out through coordination with the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP). “For enforcement action, we must coordinate with Satpol PP,” she added.
