Reported Missing from His Garden, Elderly Man from Jembrana Found Disoriented by a River

Gusti Komang Suatra (83) was reported missing after going to his garden in Banjar Tibusambi, Yehembang Kangin village, Mendoyo subdistrict, Jembrana, Bali. The elderly man was eventually found in a disoriented state on the banks of a river.

The coordinator of the Jembrana SAR post, Dewa Putu Hendri Gunawan, revealed that Suatra was first reported missing on Sunday (6/9). According to him, the search operation began early in the morning after the missing person report was received.

“The victim said goodbye at around 13.00 Wita on Sunday (6/9). The search began this morning. The team also combed the area using a thermal drone at 09.10 Wita, but the initial results came up empty,” said Dewa Hendri when contacted by detikBali on Monday (7/9/2026).

The search then resumed at around 13.00 Wita, shifting the focus of the operation towards the east. The elderly man was only detected in the late afternoon, at around 15.40 Wita, when he was spotted by an angler.

“The victim was found by a resident who was fishing in the river at coordinates 8°22’0.03”S - 114°46’31.12”E, or about 2 kilometres north of the last known point (LKP). The victim was in a disoriented state and was then evacuated to the nearest resident’s house,” explained Dewa Hendri.

Dewa Hendri confirmed that Suatra’s condition was safe. He said the family, together with village officials, then took the elderly man back to his home.

“Based on the coordination, the victim was immediately taken home. The SAR operation was officially proposed to be stood down and all joint elements were returned to their respective units,” he concluded.
