Washington (ANTARA) - US Vice President JD Vance is reportedly set to lead Washington’s efforts to end the war with Iran, according to a media report on Friday.

The Axios report, citing sources, indicated that the US Vice President will serve as the primary negotiator should peace talks with Iran proceed.

On Thursday (26/3), US President Donald Trump officially appointed Vance as the lead negotiator, alongside US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Iranian officials are said to agree with Vance due to his high position in the government and his stance against prolonged foreign conflicts, according to White House officials.

“If Iran does not reach an agreement with Vance, they will not get any agreement. He is the best they can get,” Axios quoted a senior US official as saying.

Vance has held several dialogues with Zionist regime leader Benjamin Netanyahu, met with allies in the Gulf region, and participated in indirect negotiations with Tehran.

He has also led several sessions of the US National Security Council regarding military options against Iran.

According to US and Israeli sources, Vance believes the war will continue for several more weeks.

On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched joint attacks against Iran, including Tehran, causing infrastructure damage and casualties.

Iran then carried out retaliatory strikes against Israeli territory and US military bases across the Middle East.
