JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, reported to President Prabowo Subianto regarding the results of organising mining business permits (IUP) in forest areas. This report follows up on Prabowo’s instructions in a previous meeting, which emphasised the importance of regulating mining permits in forest areas. Bahlil stated that he has completed the evaluation of several IUPs located in various categories of forest areas. “There are those in protected forests, in conservation forests, then in nature reserves, and several IUPs within forest areas; we also reported this to the President earlier, as I was given one week. One week means last week and this week,” Bahlil said at the Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026). He mentioned that based on the evaluation results, the government will soon take further steps in the form of execution. “I have already reported it and, God willing, the results are also good, and I have received technical instructions to immediately carry out further execution,” he explained. Not only ensuring legal certainty and good governance, but also maintaining a balance between the utilisation of natural resources and environmental protection. With more disciplined and measured organisation of IUPs, the government affirms that the management of natural resources must prioritise the interests of the nation, be sustainable, and provide the greatest possible benefits for the Indonesian people.
