Report: Spanish PM to visit Ceuta amid migrant surge

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will visit the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa amidst a surge in illegal migrant crossing attempts, according to a report by the daily El Pais on Friday. According to the report, Sánchez is scheduled to depart for Ceuta alongside the Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska. The Prime Minister is expected to visit the breakwater at Tarajal Beach, where he is scheduled to meet with law enforcement officials. Following this, he will hold meetings with local officials, including the Mayor and President of Ceuta, Juan Jesus Vivas. Previously, on Thursday (30/7), thousands of young Moroccans gathered at the border between Morocco and Ceuta. Subsequently, hundreds of them crossed illegally into Spanish territory, prompting Spanish authorities to deploy additional police personnel and military forces to the city.
