Report says China's economy shows extraordinary resilience in 2025

According to a government work report submitted on Thursday, 5 March, to the country’s top legislative body for discussion, China’s economy has shown extraordinary resilience over the past year. China’s GDP reached 140.19 trillion yuan in 2025, up 5 percent from the previous year. The report also notes that many new advances were achieved in science and technology last year, noting that China led in research, development and application of artificial intelligence (AI), biomedicine, robotics, and quantum technologies. According to the report, environmental conditions continued to improve, with energy consumption per unit of GDP falling by 5.1 percent. Last year’s achievements were hard-won as China faced various challenges, both domestic and abroad. The report notes a lack of adequate momentum in growth in the consumption and investment sectors.
