Report says China to dominate AI patents in 2025

Fuzhou (ANTARA) - China has become the world’s largest holder of artificial intelligence (AI) patents, accounting for 60 percent of the total global AI patents, according to the China Digital Development Report (2025) released by the National Data Administration (NDA) of China.

Published on Wednesday (29/4) at the main forum of the 9th Digital China Summit in Fujian Province, eastern China, the report indicates that the value added from the core digital economy industry now contributes more than 10.5 percent to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). The scale of the core AI industry has surpassed 1.2 trillion yuan (1 yuan = Rp2,536).

The report also states that the Digital China Development Index reached 170.1 in 2025, an increase of 12.99 percent year-on-year (yoy).

Significant progress has been achieved alongside the acceleration of digital regulation and technology implementation, new application scenarios for datasets, expansion of AI infrastructure, and an increase in competent digital human resources. Digital technology is increasingly integrated with the economy, governance, culture, society, and environment.

The report shows that China has built more than 110,000 high-quality datasets covering fields such as health, industry, and education. Additionally, China has established 306 national green computing facilities.

“Digital engines will play a much larger role in driving industrial upgrades,” said Yu Ying, deputy director of the NDA.

“The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) along with the National Data Administration will continue to work with all parties to advance Digital China development and build new engines for high-quality development,” she added.
